1. Avoid the laptop:

Writing by hand activates greater brain regions than typing and can even improve memory recall. Lectures with computers reduce comprehension, not only for the student but also for everyone around them.

2. Learn smarter:

Stop highlighting, underlining and rereading. Studies show that these are inefficient methods of learning. Instead, you should practice active recall, which is proven by the research on mastering material. This involves actively recalling information from memory, and self-testing.

3. Find the right roommate:

Dartmouth studies show that the habits of a more studious roommate have a positive impact on their grades. This is the easiest way to increase your marks.

4. Find your own place to study:

Choosing where to study is very important. If you are someone who studies in bed, you need to change that habit because your mind associates bed with sleeping. Studying will be effective in a place where you feel energized and motivated like in a library, using a table, or somewhere in your house where distractions are less.

5. The right clothes are important:

Study after study shows that there is a clear relationship between how you dress and how you behave. Students are more attentive when they wear suits or lab coats than when they are wearing sweatpants.

6. Chew gum:

Research suggests that chewing gum can improve memory and focus. Please do not snap or blow bubbles. It’s rude.

Only focus on one task at a time. This means that you turn off your phone or leave it at home when heading to class or the library. Research shows that people who turn off their email are more productive and more focused.
