It seems more frightening the more we think about it. The initial fear can turn into a mental fear that takes over and prevents us from making new friends. Fear can lead to shyness towards others.
All of these fears are only in our heads. You have to remember that 99% of people are too concerned about these things to pay attention. While you are worried about your impression, they are worried about what you will think.
They are as afraid as you are. The remaining 1% recognizes that relationships are built on stronger values than the specific words/actions shared in one encounter. Are you willing to make friends with people who judge you based on what you say or do? I don’t think so.
